Are You Your Teen’s Hero?

You are bound to see some changes in your teen through the years. The hair color, hair length, style of clothes, music, etc. It all changes. Some of the influence for these changes comes from their heroes. This is why it’s important to ask who your teen’s heroes are.

Your teen can be motivated to improve their grades, attitude or outlook on life based on who their heroes are.  Of course, this works both ways and they can pick up some very bad habits from heroes as well. This is an added bonus or challenge for you depending on who your teen chooses.

Ultimately you are your teen’s first hero and the responsibility may seem great, but it is filled with opportunities to inspire your teen to be their best self. Teen’s find seemingly insignificant things upon which they base their hero worship. So the fact that you listen to them, tried a music concert you didn’t like, work hard at your job, or volunteered at the local homeless shelter gives your teen a sense of pride in who you are and it makes them want to be like you.

Sports heroes, coaches, musicians, teachers, etc. can all serve as heroes to your teen, but when you step up to be the best person you can be no matter what that entails you raise your teen’s expectations in who they can become and inspire them to be great.  That’s what you look for in a hero and so why shouldn’t your teen?
