But, we already have a Brittany Spears
Part of being a teen is looking around, comparing. They compare themselves to other teens, other adults, celebrities, you. Yes, they even compare themselves to you. They want to know how they are like you and different from you. They want to know if they have what is not so cool about you and what is so very cool about Brittany.
Some teens are just going to dilly dally at the make-up counter or hair dressers. A few lashes here and a Jessica Simpson extension there. Some are going to take this to the ultimate and ask for plastic surgery. All in an attempt to be…liked? Accepted? Popular?
Being a teen is like getting a package that says, “Don’t open until Christmas.” Are you kidding me? I want the boobs now! I need the height now! I want the abs now! But life is all about patience and it is all about doing the time. Life doesn’t want your teen to be Brittany because had Brittany tried to be Madonna, we would have said, “But, we already have Madonna?” instead, Brittany did her own thing and took an outfit that they wanted her to wear for a silly video in a high school gym and turned it into well, Brittany! That was all her. That was her trying to be her. If your teen dies her well, you know.
No, what you want is for your teen to think up the next thing. What is the thing they have that no one else has and do that! Make people copy you. We don’t have a “your teen.” Do you know that designers send people to hang around school campuses and search for trendsetters? then they copy it and make tons of money off it? They aren’t looking for someone who can mimic. Hollywood isn’t looking for a mimic. Maybe Vegas, but not Hollywood and certainly not an employer, they want an original someone who brings unique characteristics and qualities to their team. They want someone who is going to think up something innovative because they too know there is already a Brittany Spears.
