“No.” A very short word with the power to give your teen the ability to be patient and more importantly delay what they think they need now.
Any teen who can learn how to wait is patient enough to wait for what becomes a real reward. It allows them to make a better choice because they may be offered a better opportunity, they may be better prepared or they may be able to save to make one payment rather than charge it. This is what you teach them with the word, “No.”
When you create opportunities for them to wait a month or two for something very expensive they begin to understand how someone saves money for a big item. You train them to attend school to train for a job rather than settle for fast money. The patience of acquiring these things is the same patience required to wait for a teen to become the adult you have been raising. You can do all this with the word, “No.”
