Do You Really Want To Know What Your Teen Is Doing?

As parents you inquire, snoop or simply try and entrap your teen into revealing the illicit behavior you are certain they are doing.  When something seems wrong, your first inclination is that they must be doing drugs, having sex or both.

As a parent some of your worst fears are that your teen will do something to ruin their life and the consequences will be so tremendous that they will not recover, or maybe it’s you who won’t recover. Either way, if you get a chance to rethink your teen’s behavior, it’s really worth the effort to really know what your teen is doing.

You don’t have to assume they’re always up to no good. That doesn’t make for an honest relationship, but know that it is not impossible that they might have some exposure to these high risk behaviors. This is not necessarily a bad thing, here is the opportunity for them to put into effect their values (not yours) on drugs, alcohol, or sex.

So practice your game face and let them know that you REALLY want to know. Yes, some of it may be hard to swallow, but you really do want to know. This is the only way you can know where they stand on things. You never know, they might impress you with their value system.
