National Adoption Day
This is National Adoption Month and tomorrow is National Adoption Day. Although the number of babies placed for adoption has decreased the need for adoptive parents has increased.
Teens thrive when they have a connection to others and a nurtured sense of self. They develop these connections to people that are closest to them whether they are in a foster home or adopted home. So irrespective of the type of home a connection to a family they can call their own is priceless.
It’s said that 1 in 6 people has some connection to an adoption in the way of being adopted, knowing someone who has been adopted or has adopted, etc.. Some famous people who have been adopted include Soon-yi Allen, Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe, Steve Jobs, John Lennon and Richard Burton. Clearly, despite the challenges of growing up without the birth family, most adopted kids grow up to be self-sufficient, loving and talented adults. Basically, anybody you might know.
