You would like to get your teen to just try something like doing better in school, or chores or even socializing. Instead of having them jump right in, you might want to ask them to take a nibble.
Ask them to try a little doable thing like walking across the street when the goal is walking around the block, turning in homework a couple nights with the goal of every night. Sometimes accomplishing the little goal sets them up huge to accomplish the big ones.
It is important that you not forget the importance of the little goals so a roll of your eyes and a sigh at the little goals will only cause the whole thing to back fire. So rah, rah the little goals so they get to the big ones and then you can both sit back and revel in their accomplishments, the big accomplishments!
