Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day

This weekend is Valentine’s Day. Even if your down on love, it is going to affect you in some way. Sure it may just be about the business and everyone knows that flowers on a random day are so much more meaningful than flowers on a mandatory day, but Valentine’s Day is still an opportunity.

An opportunity? Yes, an opportunity to tell someone that you might have been thinking of a little or a lot that you are thinking about them. When it comes to your teen, Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to tell them how special they are to you. The fun is in how you choose to do this.

1. Pictures

If you have access to fun or silly pictures of your teen when they were a baby, you can list things you love about them using these photos from their childhood. If there are photos with you much younger all the more to add to the humor of it.

2. Inspirational words

There are great opportunities for even the worst crafters to place a 5X7 photo on an 8X11 piece of paper and place very positive and loving words about your teen around the photo to make a matte, then place this in a frame.

3. Letter

Write your teen a letter and describe all of the things about them that you love. You can be creative with the paper by using vellum (easily purchased in craft stores like Michaels), you can use stickers, rub ons and other forms of creative word communication to doll up the letter. Most importantly, the letter should be something that conveys a sentiment that they really mean a lot to you.

4. Video

Record yourself describing things like the day your teen was born, mention all the things about them that inspire you or that have been pleasant surprises like what a great hugger they are.

In order to counter the cynicism of Valentine’s Day it may be necessary to fight business with creativity, your words. So if you don’t want to buy into the business of Valentine’s day then use the inspiration of your love for your teen to think up a unique way of telling your teen you love them.
