Your God Given Talent
Your teen is God’s gift to the world. No, not their looks their talent, what they do? What they were born to do. This thing comes naturally to them and while others struggle, they simply excel with minimal effort. Your teen is searching for this. Sometimes when they find it, they take it for granted. They either squander it by not honing it or chalk it up to luck, or they act annoyed when other teens ask them to share how to do the thing they do so well. When you see your teen do this, remind them, this is your God given talent, honor the talent by sharing it with the world.
Share the talent and give of yourself. If your teen keeps it to themselves, they waste it. They fail to meet the purpose of their being here. For some teens, this is still a looming question, “What is it they are here to do?” They don’t know what their talent is yet. So they keep trying new things, meeting new people and having new experiences, or they simply believe that they aren’t here to do anything. Remind them that this too is not possible.
If you watch the Olympics and you hear the ages of the winners with their accomplishments, your teen could make the mistake of thinking all talents are big gestures in the world, but some talents are the soft spoken resistance to being asked to move to the back of the bus. Remember, Rosa Parks was tired. She didn’t move because she was too tired. She too had worked a long day and she just couldn’t bear to stand and move once more. This was a seemingly small act of rebellion. You could say, all that is needed to find your talent is to believe that you are worthy of doing something great, but great should not mean grand to your teen, instead it should mean they are willing to share the talent God gave them to become as they were meant to be, relevant in the world.
